The base of this painting is a floral image. I painted and drew over the flowering tree, yet the movement and delicacy remain. Then I used various fiber techniques to sew, mend, and adorn the painting.

Lambs in the Pasture
Lambs in the Pasture

Looking at aerial landscape photography inspired this piece. It is a celebration of lush farmland as well as the subtle differences in hues of green. The dichotomy of natural grasslands and human-made walls is intriguing. When making the piece, the first step was the texture. Next came the delineation of the walls and pastures. Layers of multi-toned green and the addition of abstracted sheep-shapes were the final steps.

Darkness and Sunlight

First and foremost in this piece was the painted paper. Made through experimentation and unconscious expression. Then came assembly. Layers of paint and paper together formed a dialogue between darkness and light. Not dissimilar to the balance of the two in each person's psyche.

This painting began as an experiment in texture. The panel surface was built up with assorted mediums and a variety of tools were used to effect different expressive marks. Then came paint and the conscious and subconscious decisions of which marks to bring to the front and which to push back. The underlying structure of the panel quietly informed the final appearance of the final piece.
